Sandy Vopalka
Research and Resource Manager

In 1995, Sandy received her M.S. in Gerontology and Human Development.  In 2000, she was the Campaign Field Director for the Simpson for Congress campaign in Iowa.  In 2002 she become the Stonewall Democrats Field Director, and in 2003, she founded Equality Iowa. 

Sandy has been active in education, LGBT issues, and politics for many years.  In 2007 Equality Iowa and One Iowa joined forces.  Sandy is now running One Iowa’s Aging and Senior Outreach program. 

Sandy is a member of the Progressive Coalition of Central Iowa, LGBT Youth in Iowa Schools Task Force, Women’s Cultural Collective, Progressive Action for the Common Good of QC, QCAD and the Equality Federation.  She is currently PFLAG’s Iowa legislative coordinator.  She lives with her partner Terri Gideon.
